Understanding Multi-Site

User Management and License Optimizer is built to simplify the administration of users across multiple, distinct Atlassian sites within an Atlassian Organization. This guide explains how the multi-site feature works and how you can leverage it in your Atlassian Cloud environment.

How it Works

When you connect your Atlassian organization that contains multiple sites (with separate Jira, Confluence, and other Atlassian instances), User Management and License Optimizer acts as a single pane of glass, fetching and displaying user and group data from all of them.

  • Centralized View: The dashboard and user browser provide a consolidated view of all users, their associated sites, and activated products.

  • Site Switching: You can easily switch between sites using the site selector on the top to see a site-specific view.

  • Cross-Site Operations: Features like the User Browser allow you to see users from all sites at once. Bulk operations work at the organization level, so they affect users across all sites where they have access. If a user only exists on one site, changes will only affect that site.

Use Cases for User Management and License Optimizer

  • Unified Search: Find a user regardless of which site or which App (Jira, Confluence, etc.) they are a member of.

  • Global Policies: Create automation rules that apply to users across your entire Atlassian Organization, not just a single site or single product.

  • Consolidated Reporting: View metrics for all your sites on a single dashboard to easily compare user activity and growth.
