What permissions are required to set up and configure the Out of Office Assistant app in JIRA?

Every user can configure Out of Office for themselves from the main page of the app. To configure rules for other users, either project administrator or Jira administrator permissions are required.

Can the Out of Office Assistant be configured for both company-managed and team-managed projects?

Yes, it can be configured for both types of projects. However, note that customizations like card colors specific to company-managed projects will not be available on team-managed projects.

How do I access the configuration settings for Out of Office Assistant after installation?

After installation, the app can be accessed from:

  • The App dropdown in the Jira top menu
  • The User Profile dropdown at the top right corner of the Jira cloud UI

For configuring rules for other users, project admins and Jira admins need to access the User Administration section.

Is Out of Office Assistant compatible with all versions of JIRA?

Out of Office Assistant supports Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Work Management. It is not compatible with Jira Product Discovery or Jira Align.

Can the app be installed on JIRA Server, Data Center, and Cloud instances?

Out of Office Assistant for Jira Cloud is specifically for cloud versions of Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Work Management. However, a very similar app also called Out of Office Assistant is available for Jira Data Center.

Can Out of Office Assistant be bulk-deployed across multiple teams in a JIRA instance?

Yes, it will be available to every team in a Jira instance by default. However, specific Out of Office rules must be created per user.

Can I limit the installation of Out of Office Assistant to specific JIRA user groups or projects?

Currently, it’s not possible to restrict the app to specific users, groups, or projects in Jira.

As Atlassian rolls out new Data Security Policies, we will soon allow to define which projects should be blacklisted or whitelisted for the usage of Out of Office. However, as of Q3 2024, we're still waiting for some necessary APIs to implement this improvement without breaking changes.
