Preparation Features

Before each meeting, participants prepare their updates in the My Update view. NASA provides tools to add Jira issues, organize your agenda with text items and headlines, carry over items from previous sessions, and reference Confluence pages.

The My Update view where participants prepare their meeting agenda with Jira issues, text items, and headlines. Suggested issues from the linked Jira board appear in the right panel for quick addition.

Prerequisites

  • NASA app installed and at least one stream created

  • You are assigned as a Participant, Coverer, or Scrum Master in the stream (see User Roles & Permissions)

  • The stream is linked to a Jira board

Suggested Issues

NASA automatically suggests Jira issues based on the stream's filter configuration. The Scrum Master configures which issues appear in Settings > Filters (see Filters).

Four filter types are available:

  • Priority - Issues filtered by priority level (Highest, High, Medium, Low, Lowest)

  • Issue Type - Issues filtered by type (Story, Bug, Task, Sub-task, Epic)

  • Status - Issues filtered by workflow status (To Do, In Progress, Done)

  • Jira Issue Filter - A saved Jira filter (JQL query) for precise control over which issues appear

Suggested issues appear in the right-hand panel during preparation. Click the + button next to an issue to add it to your update. If you need an issue that does not appear in the suggestions, use the Search button to find any Jira issue by key or title.

For details on configuring suggested issue filters, see Suggested Jira Issue Selection.

Copy from Previous Update

To carry over items from your last meeting:

  1. Click Copy from Previous at the top of your My Update.

  2. Review the items from your previous session.

  3. Select the items you want to carry forward.

  4. Edit or remove items as needed for the current meeting.

This is useful for ongoing work items, recurring blockers, or multi-sprint tasks that span multiple meetings. See Copy and Paste Previous Standup Updates for details.

Item Clipboard

When you remove an item from your update using the - button, it moves to the Item Clipboard rather than being deleted. To retrieve a removed item:

  1. Open the Item Clipboard from the preparation view.

  2. Find the item you want to restore.

  3. Click + to add it back to your update.

The clipboard provides a safety net when reorganizing your update so you do not lose items accidentally.

Text Items and Headlines

Not every update relates to a Jira issue. Use text items and headlines to add context:

  • Text Items - Free-text entries for updates, announcements, or discussion points not tied to a specific Jira issue. Text items can be converted to Jira issues during or after the meeting.

  • Headlines - Section headers that organize your update into logical groups (for example, "Completed", "In Progress", "Blockers").

To add either type, click Add Text Item or Add Headline in your My Update view.

Confluence Pages as Items

In Team Meetings, you can add Confluence pages as agenda items. This is useful for referencing design documents, specifications, or meeting notes from other teams.

To add a Confluence page:

  1. Click Add Confluence Page in your My Update.

  2. Search for the page by title.

  3. Select the page to add it as an item.

Adding Confluence pages requires a Confluence connection configured in Settings > Data Sources. See Data Sources for setup instructions.

Creating New Jira Issues During Preparation

If you identify a new task during preparation:

  1. Click Create Issue in the right-hand panel.

  2. Fill in the issue details (summary, type, priority).

  3. The new issue is created in Jira and automatically added to your update.
