Jira Administrator Guide
This guide covers installation, permissions, and app management tasks for Jira Cloud administrators. If you are a Scrum Master running meetings, see the Scrum Master Guide instead.
Prerequisites
Jira Cloud instance with administrator role
Access to the Atlassian Marketplace
Installing NASA
Install NASA from the Atlassian Marketplace:
Go to the NASA Marketplace listing or search for "NASA - Agile Meetings for Teams" in the Marketplace.
Click Get it now or Try it free.
Select your Jira Cloud instance.
Review and accept the required permission scopes.
Wait for the installation to complete.
After installation, NASA appears under Apps in the Jira top navigation for all users by default. No instance restart or downtime is required. The installation does not affect existing Jira configuration or other apps.
Configuring Global Permissions
NASA includes a global permission called NASA Standup App Use Permission that controls which users can access the app. To restrict access to specific groups:
Go to Jira Settings (gear icon) > System.
Under Security, click Global permissions.
Scroll to NASA Standup App Use Permission.
Click Delete next to any group you want to remove.
Click Grant Permission to add a specific group.
Confirm your changes.
The screenshot below shows the NASA permission in the Global Permissions settings, with the groups that currently have access listed on the right.

By default, all users have access to NASA. Only restrict access if you need to limit the app to specific groups.
Users without this permission see an error page when they try to open the NASA app. For a detailed breakdown of the permission model, see App Use Permissions.
Managing Licenses
NASA licensing is managed through the Atlassian Marketplace:
Go to Jira Settings > Apps > Manage apps, or open Connected Apps in Atlassian Administration.
Find "NASA - Agile Meetings for Teams" in the app list.
View the current license status, user count, and expiration date.
A 30-day free trial is available for new installations. After the trial, a paid subscription is required to continue using the app. License tiers are based on the number of Jira users on your instance, not the number of active NASA users.
User Provisioning and Roles
NASA does not require separate user provisioning. Any Jira Cloud user with the NASA Standup App Use Permission can access the app immediately.
Within the app, roles are assigned per stream by the Scrum Master:
Scrum Master - Full stream control: create, configure, and delete streams; start, lead, and end meetings.
Coverer - Backup facilitator: start, lead, and end meetings when the Scrum Master is unavailable. Can also duplicate streams and change settings.
Participant - Prepare updates and attend meetings.
Role assignments are managed in each stream's Settings > Users tab. As a Jira administrator, you do not need to assign NASA-specific roles unless you are also a Scrum Master for a stream. See User Roles & Permissions for the full role breakdown.
Monitoring App Usage
To see how your teams use NASA:
Active streams - Each stream represents a recurring meeting. Scrum Masters create streams and manage participants.
User count - Check the Manage Apps page or Atlassian Administration for the current user count against your license tier.
Meeting activity - Team Journals in each stream show meeting history for the last 30 entries.
NASA does not provide a centralized admin dashboard. Usage is distributed across individual streams managed by their respective Scrum Masters.
Troubleshooting
NASA does not appear in the Apps menu
Verify the app is installed: Jira Settings > Apps > Manage apps.
Check that the user has the NASA Standup App Use Permission in Global Permissions.
Try refreshing the browser or clearing the cache.
Users see an error page when opening NASA
The user's group likely does not have the NASA Standup App Use Permission. Add their group to the permission as described in the Configuring Global Permissions section above.
App appears but no streams exist
Streams are created per team by Scrum Masters. If no streams exist, a Scrum Master needs to create the first stream and add participants. See Getting Started for the initial setup walkthrough.
License or billing issues
Contact Atlassian Marketplace support for license management, billing, or subscription changes.
Uninstalling NASA
To remove NASA from your Jira instance:
Go to Jira Settings > Apps > Manage apps, or open Connected Apps in Atlassian Administration.
Find "NASA - Agile Meetings for Teams".
Click Uninstall.
Confirm the removal.
Uninstalling removes all NASA data, including streams, meeting history, and settings. This action cannot be undone.
